WORLD MISSION SUNDAY- MISSIO COFFEE MORNING

This weekend there will be a Misso Coffee morning on Sunday 20th October, 2024 after the 9:00am & 11:00am masses. Please support this important work and enjoy the coffee, tea and cakes!

FIRE DRILL

THIS WEEKEND

There is a legal requirement for us to practice evacuating the church in case of a fire.  To avoid disruption during services, the evacuation will be at the end of the 11am Mass this Sunday.  Please follow the directions of the stewards who will guide you through the sacristy exit.  This will really help the parish check our evacuation procedures and  ensure that everyone is being kept as safe as possible

NOTE FOR OUR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP

We will next be singing and playing at the 11am Mass on Sunday, 3rd November and holding a  practice beforehand in the Church Choir loft 7 to 8pm on Monday, 28th October.

Please make every effort to come to the practice as well as the Mass as we have a new psalm to rehearse along with the hymns we’ve chosen to sing at the Mass. We look forward to seeing you all there. We invite any new singers or musicians in the Parish to join us – simply come along! Thank you.

CERTIFICATES OF PRACTICE FOR SCHOOLS

Parents who are applying to a Catholic school for their children should please bring a completed certificate of Catholic practice to Father Adrian after the Sunday Mass they usually attend. Information and certificates can be found here:

NEW TRANSLATION OF  THE READINGS  AT MASS

A new edition of the Lectionary, the book which contains the readings which are proclaimed at Mass, will come into use in England and Wales in Advent 2024. The new edition uses the English Standard Version (Catholic edition)  for the readings and the Abbey Psalms and Canticles for the Responsorial Psalms. The content of the readings is the same, it is just the translation of the text which is different. It is intended that this change will  make the biblical translations more faithful to the original languages and recent developments in biblical scholarship, and also provide a text for use in a liturgical setting that is easier to proclaim and, where appropriate, more inclusive.

We will start using the new book of readings at weekday Masses this coming week.

The books which are available for parishioners to use during Mass will be replaced in due course and there will be new Sunday Missals available to buy form the repository at the back of the church soon.

JOURNEY IN FAITH

Do you feel God’s gentle call to become Catholic?  Or have you been away from Church life and want to return, finding out more about your faith?  Would you like to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic Faith?

If any of these questions apply to your situation then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is for you!  Running from October until Easter, the RCIA programme helps to form intentional disciples for Christ and prepare candidates for the sacraments of initiation into the Church, as well as helping anyone who would like a refresher of Catholic teaching.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact the parish office.
