27th Sunday in Ordinary Time

COMMUNITY DAY

Many thanks to everyone who helped plan, organise or deliver our parish community day last Sunday. Thank you, also, to everyone who came along: there was a wonderful feeling of togetherness, discovery and warmth.  As we learnt more about the parish and made or renewed friendships the main word that came to mind was encouragement.  Thank you again and well done!

‘Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.’  1 Thessalonians 5:11.

JOURNEY IN FAITH

Do you feel God’s gentle call to become Catholic?  Or have you been away from Church life and want to return, finding out more about your faith?  Would you like to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic Faith?

If any of these questions apply to your situation then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is for you!  Running from October until Easter, the RCIA programme helps to form intentional disciples for Christ and prepare candidates for the sacraments of initiation into the Church, as well as helping anyone who would like a refresher of Catholic teaching.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact the parish office.

SECOND COLLECTION

There will be a second collection this weekend for CAFOD after all the masses. Envelopes will also be available at the back of the Church if you would like to make a donation.

 GOVERNOR REQUEST

The trustees of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Multi Academy Trust are seeking governors to support the leadership of the schools they serve.

Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Multi Academy Trust consists of three Catholic schools

  • St. Albans Catholic Academy in Harlow,
  • St Luke’s Catholic Academy in Harlow
  • St John Fisher Catholic Academy in Loughton

Active governance supports the Catholic community and Catholic education in a variety of ways, most importantly it can have a significant impact by raising the quality of educational provision in our schools, which in turn ensures our children have a rich and full life, growing as ambassadors our Catholic faith.

We are particularly seeking governors who can support the schools using their professional qualities, such as leadership and management, finance and HR.

Being a foundation governor in a Catholic school is very rewarding, and a great way to live out your faith and serve your local community. It is also an opportunity to learn new skills which can have a positive impact on your own learning and professional development.

If you are interested please email Clerk@ourladyoffatimatrust.essex.sch.uk to arrange a meeting, or visit our website https://www.ourladyoffatimatrust.essex.sch.uk/ for the governor application / nomination form.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Dear Parents:  It is wonderful that families in our parish our always enthusiastic about their children making their First Holy Communion.  I am sure that many of us remember our own experience of First Communion; how special it is to receive Jesus into our lives in this unique and profound way.  It is, of course, part of our own ongoing growth as Christians, as Children of God, and is the beginning of a lifetime of Communions – of being united with Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour.

After a time of prayer and discernment, of accompanying our children in this parish and in others, and after speaking with our catechists, it has become apparent that our children would be better able to participate in this important time in their lives if we wait a year, making the time of formation year 4 (ages 8/9).  The important thing we all need to learn as disciples is that Jesus calls us into a deep, loving friendship with him and that Holy Communion is something that helps that friendship grow.  Current thinking is that waiting a year , allowing maturity to develop, will help that understanding of friendship  and discipleship and will help our young people in the long term in their relationship with Christ.

The Communion programme will pause for a year this September and a new set of sessions will be developed to commence in 2025/2026 for children aged 8 years and upwards.  This will take the form of six sessions around the theme of ‘meetings with Jesus.’  As always, families will be encouraged to supplement this by sharing their faith with their children at home.  Resources will be made available to families to help with this.  With every blessing.

PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SICK

Fr. Adrian wishes everyone a blessed, peaceful and happy summer, and safe journeys for those travelling.  Our usual Mass schedule continues through the summer months.  Mass intentions and times will be on our website and in the display case outside the church and noticeboard.

Thursday 15 August is the Solemn Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. This is a holy day when the Church asks us to attend Mass. Masses in our parish are at 12:15pm and 7:30pm.

The parish office will now be closed until Tuesday 12 August.

Fr. Christopher Clohessy is covering the parish over the next few weeks and is available for emergency calls.

NOTE TO OUR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP We will next be singing and playing at the 11am Mass on Sunday, 4th August and holding a practice beforehand between 7 to 8pm on Monday, 29th July. If you are on holiday at that time, do have a nice and relaxing break; otherwise, it would be good to see you all at the practice and at the Mass. Please do come to the practice as well as the Mass as we’d like to run through the psalm, Our Father and other music. New singers and musicians who might like to join us would be made very welcome! Thanks.

KEEP THE DATE- SEPTEMBER 28th – PARISH COMMUNITY DAY:  Hi Everyone,

We’re organising a community day on September 28th, actually more of a morning.  The parish is invited and please invite your friends and family. All are welcome.

We want to showcase our voluntary activities and tell our parish about them.   There will be refreshments available, so save the date and come along.  We look forward to seeing you.

If you are an organiser of a voluntary activity or a volunteer, please could you make yourself known to John at johnfitzm66@gmail.com giving your name, preferred contact method and what you volunteer for.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:    Dear Parents:  It is wonderful that families in our parish our always enthusiastic about their children making their First Holy Communion.

With every blessing

Fr. Adrian
