Important Pro-Life News from the Bishops’ Conference Website

The Catholic Church teaches that life is sacred, from the moment of conception to natural death.  In June 2025, pro-abortion MPs, led by Tonia Antoniazzi MP, rushed through the abortion up to birth clause after just 46 minutes of backbench debate – there was no prior consultation with the public, no Committee Stage scrutiny and no evidence sessions.

The Antoniazzi clause would make it more likely that healthy babies are aborted at home for any reason, up to birth. The clause would change the law so it would no longer be illegal for women to perform their own abortions for any reason, and at any point up to and during birth. If this amendment becomes law, it would likely lead to a significant increase in the number of women performing late-term abortions at home, endangering the lives of many more women.

Please consider writing to the Lords using the sample letter and details of the Lords at the back of the church. Alternatively, you can send a pre-written letter to the Lords at this link, it takes less than 30 seconds to complete and send:

https://righttolife.org.uk/uptobirthlords

Please also pray that all life, which is so precious to God, is protected, and for all people who are desperate and worried about their pregnancies and feel that abortion is their only option.

God Bless  Fr. Adrian

CAFOD: Response in Gaza

Your donations to Gaza since the start of the conflict have been a vital lifeline. Right now, CAFOD’s partner, Caritas Jerusalem, is delivering essential medical treatment to displaced people and providing medicines to treat chronic illnesses. We have helped 1,400 households with cash to buy supplies in the last month and we are currently feeding 2,000 people with new stocks of flour and rice. Despite the restrictions on aid coming into Gaza, CAFOD’s local partners are working tirelessly to help people. And with your ongoing support, they will do all in their power to keep doing so. You can find out more about how you can make a difference in Gaza at cafod.org.uk. Thank you for backing our work through holding collections for our Family Fast Day appeals and for continuing to pray for peace in the Middle East.

First Holy Communion Programme Registration Forms

The important thing we all need to learn as disciples is that Jesus calls us into a deep, loving friendship with him and that Holy Communion is something that helps that friendship grow. After a time of prayer and discernment, of accompanying our children in this parish and in others, and after speaking with our catechists, it has become apparent that our children would be better able to participate in this important time in their lives if we wait a year, making the time of formation year 4 (ages 8/9).

Registration forms for First Holy Communion are now available at the back of the Church with a closing date of 30 September 2025 for children in year 4 and above (minimum age 8). Please take a form and return it to the parish office by this date. There will be a meeting for parents in November, and the formation sessions will start in Advent. Please be ready to provide a copy of your child’s baptism certificate with your form.

We are looking forward to the programme this year and to helping guide our young people in their relationship with the Lord. As a preparation over the coming months, you may wish to start to speak with your children about Jesus’s presence in the Eucharist and begin to share your own stories and memories of your First Holy Communion. You could also speak with them about what the Eucharist means to you today.

If you have any questions, then please contact Fr. Adrian.
