THANK YOU TO ALL OUR PARISHIONERS

On behalf of our two choirs and, of course, our Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society bear mascot ‘Ed the Ted’, thank you all so much for putting your money in our collection boxes after the masses last weekend. The great sum of £304.50 was collected and this is already in the hands of BCCS. Back in the summer, we collected £340 in  our boxes, plus there were some scanned donations, so we reckon the total amount collected for BCCS is in the region of £700, a great result for such a small bear!

BCCS has asked us to pass on their grateful thanks for this and the many other ways our Parish continues to support the invaluable work of BCCS in helping children and families in need across our Diocese. Thanks again!

NEW TRANSLATION OF  THE READINGS  AT MASS

A new edition of the Lectionary, the book which contains the readings which are proclaimed at Mass, will come into use in England and Wales in Advent 2024. The new edition uses the English Standard Version (Catholic edition)  for the readings and the Abbey Psalms and Canticles for the Responsorial Psalms. The content of the readings is the same, it is just the translation of the text which is different. It is intended that this change will  make the biblical translations more faithful to the original languages and recent developments in biblical scholarship, and also provide a text for use in a liturgical setting that is easier to proclaim and, where appropriate, more inclusive.

We will start using the new book of readings at weekday Masses this coming week.

The books which are available for parishioners to use during Mass will be replaced in due course and there will be new Sunday Missals available to buy form the repository at the back of the church soon.

JOURNEY IN FAITH

Do you feel God’s gentle call to become Catholic?  Or have you been away from Church life and want to return, finding out more about your faith?  Would you like to deepen your knowledge of the Catholic Faith?

If any of these questions apply to your situation then the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is for you!  Running from October until Easter, the RCIA programme helps to form intentional disciples for Christ and prepare candidates for the sacraments of initiation into the Church, as well as helping anyone who would like a refresher of Catholic teaching.

If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact the parish office.
