MASSES THIS WEEK

Please note that weekday Masses are: Monday 9:30am, Wednesday 7pm (Confirmations), Thursday 9am, Friday 9:30am.  Please note there is no Mass on Tuesday or Wednesday morning.

CONFIRMATION

Bishop Alan will preside at the Mass on Wednesday evening when over thirty of our parishioners will be confirmed.  We welcome Bishop Alan as he makes his pastoral visit to our parish and pray for those being confirmed, that the gifts of the Spirit flourish abundantly in their lives.  All are welcome to attend the Mass on Wednesday 18 September at 7pm.

SEPTEMBER 29th – PARISH COMMUNITY DAY and BBQ

On Sunday 29th September after the Sunday masses, we are hosting a late summer BBQ alongside our Community Day in the Church hall.  

Our community is busy, is inclusive and has a strong sense of belonging, so let’s show it and celebrate it on the 29th September. Come along, everyone is invited! 

The volunteer community leaders will be around to tell you about their activities.

The BBQ and refreshments will be available after the Sunday masses.

We look forward to seeing you.

TRINITY CATHOLIC YEAR 7 OPEN EVENING

We are delighted to invite all prospective parents and students to join our prospective Year 7 

Open Evening, which will take place on Wednesday 25^th September 2024 on the Upper Site, Mornington Road, between 4pm and 6.30pm, with Dr Doherty OBE, talking at 4.30pm and 6pm.  There are parking restrictions in the area, so please be aware of this on the evening.  Please complete the form on our website to confirm your attendance: https://forms.office.com/e/v1qcVL0ZGQ

The closing date for applications is 31^st October 2024.  Please note that applicants will need to complete a common application form which will be provided by their own Local Authority on line.  For applicants wishing to submit a Certificate of Catholic Practice, this Diocesan document can be obtained through your Parish Priest, or on the Diocesan website: https://www.dioceseofbrentwood.net/departments/education/secondary-school-admissions/, or from the priest that will be signing your form.  You will also need to complete a SIF form, which can be found on the Trinity website, under Admissions.  

Parents will be able to drop these documents off at the Sydney Road entrance in the drop box, not directly to the school office as we are not able to receive visitors to school at this time.  Please contact the office via the buzzer on the gate to let them know that documentation has been left.  Please provide a SAE if you require a receipt.

BRENTWOOD CATHOLIC CHILDREN’S SOCIETY

Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society (BCCS) has a number of Gold Bond Charity places for runners in the LONDON MARATHON taking place on Sunday 27th April 2025. The closing date for completed applications is Friday 26^th September and please note that there is a minimum sponsorship requirement of £1800 (excluding Gift Aid). If you have been lucky enough to secure your own running place through the ballot, BCCS would invite you to join them and run to support children’s mental health. The London Marathon is a unique opportunity to raise much needed funds for the Diocesan Children’s Society and perhaps achieve a lifetime ambition at the same time.

Loving Earth Exhibition at Loughton Methodist Church

From the 10^th to the 21^st October the Methodist Church are hosting a wonderful exhibition that explores some of the things threatened by growing environmental breakdown: people, places, creatures, and other things we love. 

The exhibition comprises fabric panels made by communities all over the UK and abroad. Each panel is accompanied by the maker’s reflections on their work. The Methodist Church invite us to come and enjoy the artwork and be inspired.

The exhibition will be open 11-3 Monday to Thursday, 11-2 Fridays

Weekend opening: Saturday 12 th 10-12, Sunday 13 th 2-5, Saturday 19 th 10-5

Evening opening Monday 14^th, Thursday 17^th, Monday 21^st, all 7pm – 9pm

THE BRENTWOOD CATHOLIC CHILDREN’S SOCIETY

 on Saturday 14th September there will be a sponsored walk held jointly with Woodford Parish for BCCS. It starts from The Becket Centre at St Thomas’s at 9.30am. To participate you just need to be there at 9.30am to register. Sponsorship forms can be obtained from Iain McLay (bloggeriain@gmail.com). It is great fun, dogs welcome, and it raises lots of money for BCCS, so they can do their wonderful work with young peoples’ emotional and mental health in the diocese, irrespective of their religion. Fr Frank moves to his first appointment as Assistant Priest at St Mary, Mother of God in Hornchurch this weekend. Please keep him in your prayers as he begins ministry in his new parish. He leaves with the blessings and love of our parish.

The trustees of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Multi Academy Trust are seeking governors to support the leadership of the schools they serve.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Dear Parents:  It is wonderful that families in our parish our always enthusiastic about their children making their First Holy Communion.  I am sure that many of us remember our own experience of First Communion; how special it is to receive Jesus into our lives in this unique and profound way.  It is, of course, part of our own ongoing growth as Christians, as Children of God, and is the beginning of a lifetime of Communions – of being united with Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour.

After a time of prayer and discernment, of accompanying our children in this parish and in others, and after speaking with our catechists, it has become apparent that our children would be better able to participate in this important time in their lives if we wait a year, making the time of formation year 4 (ages 8/9).  The important thing we all need to learn as disciples is that Jesus calls us into a deep, loving friendship with him and that Holy Communion is something that helps that friendship grow.  Current thinking is that waiting a year , allowing maturity to develop, will help that understanding of friendship  and discipleship and will help our young people in the long term in their relationship with Christ.

The Communion programme will pause for a year this September and a new set of sessions will be developed to commence in 2025/2026 for children aged 8 years and upwards.  This will take the form of six sessions around the theme of ‘meetings with Jesus.’  As always, families will be encouraged to supplement this by sharing their faith with their children at home.  Resources will be made available to families to help with this.  With every blessing.

Parish Secretary – Forest Gate 

A vacancy has arisen for a part-time Parish Secretary to work at Forest Gate – St Anthonys.

The successful applicant will need to have excellent communication and administration skills.

The post will be part-time working 25 hours per week with hours planned to suit the requirements of the parish.
