ALL SAINTS 

Friday 1st November is the Solemn Feast of All Saints.  This is a day when the Church asks all Catholics to attend Holy Mass.  Masses in our parish are at 12:15pm and 7:30pm.

DAILY MASS TIMES THIS WEEK

Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30am.  Friday  (All Saints) Masses are at 12:15pm  and 7:30pm.  There will be an additional Mass for Holy Souls on Saturday at 9am. Please note there is no Mass in this parish on Tuesday.

CLOCKS GO BACK 1 HOUR 

BST ends at 2:00am on Sunday 27th October and clocks go back 1 hour

MASSES FOR OUR DECEASED FRIENDS AND RELATIVES IN NOVEMBER

During the month of November, we remember those who have died in a special way.  We support them with our prayers and Masses, that the Lord will bring them quickly into the fullness of his presence.

There will soon be envelopes available for Masses for our deceased loved ones.  Please fill in the names of those you would like to pray for on paper and enclose it in the envelope with any offering you would like to make.  Please then post your envelope through the presbytery door.  A basket with the envelopes will be placed by the altar at Masses from 2 November for the whole month.

FIRE EVACUATION LAST WEEKEND

Many thanks to everyone at the 11am Mass last week for cooperating with the fire practice.  It is a legal requirement for them to be held.   There were approximately 230 people in the church, and we were all were out of the building within 5 minutes. A few issues were realised for us to work on, but everyone did very well.  Many thanks to our stewards for their guidance and attention and to everyone who helped to organise the practice.

FIRE DRILL 

THIS WEEKEND

There is a legal requirement for us to practice evacuating the church in case of a fire.  To avoid disruption during services, the evacuation will be at the end of the 11am Mass this Sunday.  Please follow the directions of the stewards who will guide you through the sacristy exit.  This will really help the parish check our evacuation procedures and  ensure that everyone is being kept as safe as possible

NEW TRANSLATION OF  THE READINGS  AT MASS

A new edition of the Lectionary, the book which contains the readings which are proclaimed at Mass, will come into use in England and Wales in Advent 2024. The new edition uses the English Standard Version (Catholic edition)  for the readings and the Abbey Psalms and Canticles for the Responsorial Psalms. The content of the readings is the same, it is just the translation of the text which is different. It is intended that this change will  make the biblical translations more faithful to the original languages and recent developments in biblical scholarship, and also provide a text for use in a liturgical setting that is easier to proclaim and, where appropriate, more inclusive.

We will start using the new book of readings at weekday Masses this coming week. 

The books which are available for parishioners to use during Mass will be replaced in due course and there will be new Sunday Missals available to buy form the repository at the back of the church soon.

Many thanks to everyone who helped plan, organise or deliver our parish community day last Sunday. Parents will be able to drop these documents off at the Sydney Road entrance in the drop box, not directly to the school office as we are not able to receive visitors to school at this time.  Please contact the office via the buzzer on the gate to let them know that documentation has been left.  Please provide a SAE if you require a receipt.

LOVING EARTH EXHIBITION AT LOUGHTON METHODIST CHURCH

 From the 10^th to the 21^st October the Methodist Church are hosting a wonderful exhibition that explores some of the things threatened by growing environmental breakdown: people, places, creatures, and other things we love. 

The exhibition comprises fabric panels made by communities all over the UK and abroad. Each panel is accompanied by the maker’s reflections on their work. The Methodist Church invites us to come and enjoy the artwork and be inspired.

The exhibition will be open 11-3 Monday to Thursday, 11-2 Fridays

CONFIRMATION

Bishop Alan will preside at the Mass on Wednesday evening when over thirty of our parishioners will be confirmed.  We welcome Bishop Alan as he makes his pastoral visit to our parish and pray for those being confirmed, that the gifts of the Spirit flourish abundantly in their lives.  All are welcome to attend the Mass on Wednesday 18 September at 7pm.

SEPTEMBER 29th – PARISH COMMUNITY DAY and BBQ

On Sunday 29th September after the Sunday masses, we are hosting a late summer BBQ alongside our Community Day in the Church hall.  

Our community is busy, is inclusive and has a strong sense of belonging, so let’s show it and celebrate it on the 29th September. Come along, everyone is invited! 

The volunteer community leaders will be around to tell you about their activities.

The BBQ and refreshments will be available after the Sunday masses.

Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society (BCCS) has a number of Gold Bond Charity places for runners in the LONDON MARATHON taking place on Sunday 27th April 2025. Loving Earth Exhibition at Loughton Methodist Church

From the 10^th to the 21^st October the Methodist Church are hosting a wonderful exhibition that explores some of the things threatened by growing environmental breakdown: people, places, creatures, and other things we love. 

The exhibition comprises fabric panels made by communities all over the UK and abroad. Each panel is accompanied by the maker’s reflections on their work. The Methodist Church invite us to come and enjoy the artwork and be inspired.

The exhibition will be open 11-3 Monday to Thursday, 11-2 Fridays

THE BRENTWOOD CATHOLIC CHILDREN’S SOCIETY

 on Saturday 14th September there will be a sponsored walk held jointly with Woodford Parish for BCCS. It starts from The Becket Centre at St Thomas’s at 9.30am. To participate you just need to be there at 9.30am to register. Sponsorship forms can be obtained from Iain McLay (bloggeriain@gmail.com). It is great fun, dogs welcome, and it raises lots of money for BCCS, so they can do their wonderful work with young peoples’ emotional and mental health in the diocese, irrespective of their religion. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Dear Parents:  It is wonderful that families in our parish our always enthusiastic about their children making their First Holy Communion.  I am sure that many of us remember our own experience of First Communion; how special it is to receive Jesus into our lives in this unique and profound way.  It is, of course, part of our own ongoing growth as Christians, as Children of God, and is the beginning of a lifetime of Communions – of being united with Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour.

After a time of prayer and discernment, of accompanying our children in this parish and in others, and after speaking with our catechists, it has become apparent that our children would be better able to participate in this important time in their lives if we wait a year, making the time of formation year 4 (ages 8/9).  The important thing we all need to learn as disciples is that Jesus calls us into a deep, loving friendship with him and that Holy Communion is something that helps that friendship grow.  Current thinking is that waiting a year , allowing maturity to develop, will help that understanding of friendship  and discipleship and will help our young people in the long term in their relationship with Christ.

The Communion programme will pause for a year this September and a new set of sessions will be developed to commence in 2025/2026 for children aged 8 years and upwards.  This will take the form of six sessions around the theme of ‘meetings with Jesus.’  As always, families will be encouraged to supplement this by sharing their faith with their children at home.  Resources will be made available to families to help with this.  With every blessing.

A vacancy has arisen for a part-time Parish Secretary to work at Forest Gate – St Anthonys.

The successful applicant will need to have excellent communication and administration skills.
