KEEP THE DATE- SEPTEMBER 28th – PARISH COMMUNITY DAY:  Hi Everyone,

We’re organising a community day on September 28th, actually more of a morning.  The parish is invited and please invite your friends and family. All are welcome.

We want to showcase our voluntary activities and tell our parish about them.   There will be refreshments available, so save the date and come along.  We look forward to seeing you.

If you are an organiser of a voluntary activity or a volunteer, please could you make yourself known to John at johnfitzm66@gmail.com giving your name, preferred contact method and what you volunteer for.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION:    Dear Parents:  It is wonderful that families in our parish our always enthusiastic about their children making their First Holy Communion.  I am sure that many of us remember our own experience of First Communion; how special it is to receive Jesus into our lives in this unique and profound way.  It is, of course, part of our own ongoing growth as Christians, as Children of God, and is the beginning of a lifetime of Communions – of being united with Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour.

After a time of prayer and discernment, of accompanying our children in this parish and in others, and after speaking with our catechists, it has become apparent that our children would be better able to participate in this important time in their lives if we wait a year, making the time of formation year 4 (ages 8/9).  The important thing we all need to learn as disciples is that Jesus calls us into a deep, loving friendship with him and that Holy Communion is something that helps that friendship grow.  Current thinking is that waiting a year , allowing maturity to develop, will help that understanding of friendship  and discipleship and will help our young people in the long term in their relationship with Christ.

The Communion programme will pause for a year this September and a new set of sessions will be developed to commence in 2025/2026 for children aged 8 years and upwards.  This will take the form of six sessions around the theme of ‘meetings with Jesus.’  As always, families will be encouraged to supplement this by sharing their faith with their children at home.  Resources will be made available to families to help with this.

With every blessing

Fr. Adrian

THANK YOU MESSAGE FROM FR FRANK WESTCOTT:

Dear Friends in Christ,

I truly have been overwhelmed by your love, kindness and generosity over these past few days…I am very blessed to belong to such a wonderful parish family. I cannot begin to imagine how much time, thought, and sheer hard work, went into preparing such a beautiful and spiritually uplifting occasion. It was a joy to celebrate with you all, and such a great sign of the Holy Spirit working amidst His people.

As I mentioned at Mass on Sunday, it has often been the thought of serving you at St Edmund’s that has inspired and indeed strengthened me on my vocational journey,

So ‘thank you’ again, for your kindness, your gifts, cards, and words of encouragement.  To all who have supported me, in whatever way, whether it be through advice, guidance, prayers, or sharing a chat over a coffee….’thank you’.

With all God’s blessings

Love and Prayers,

Fr. Frank

UPDATE ON OUR TWO CHOIRS’ SPONSORSHIP OF OUR VERY OWN BCCS BEAR!

As you know, our two choirs have adopted Ed the Ted and, during this year, like other groups throughout the Diocese, we’ll be collecting money from our singers to support the invaluable work of the Brentwood Catholic Chiildren’s Society during this their 40th anniversary year.

A couple of weeks ago, Fr. Adrian kindly allowed us to shake our collection boxes after each of the masses and we can bearely wait to tell you that you contributed close to £300 as well as several scanned donations! We delivered a cheque for what we’ve raised so far to BCCS and they are very grateful. As an example, this amount will pay for a number of counselling sessions for young people with emotional or other problems, so your contributions make a direct and valuable difference. Thank you from our two choirs and, of course, from Ed!

Later this year, Fr. Adrian has agreed that we can shake the boxes again after the weekend masses and meanwhile we’ll persuade our singers to keep the collection boxes topped up!

PRO-LIFE ISSUES:

As Catholics, we are called to uphold the value and dignity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death.  We urge our MPs to reaffirm society’s commitment to the care of the weakest in our midst and not their termination.  Please see the links below for information and help when considering this important issue in the forthcoming election.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION GOING FORTH MASS

Sunday-      19th May- 11:00am First Holy Communion Going Forth Mass

NOTE FOR OUR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP:

We will next be singing and playing at the 11am Mass on Sunday, 2nd June and beforehand having a practice 7 to 8pm on Tuesday, 28th May.

We were disappointed that we only had a small number of our singers at our May practice and Mass, so here’s your chance to make amends by many more of you coming to our 28th May practice and 2nd June Mass! It’s the feast of Corpus Christi, so let’s try to celebrate this lovely feast day in full force. If there are any parishioners who would like to come and sing with us, you will be made very welcome.

BAPTISMS: If there are parents wishing to have their children baptised at St. Edmund’s please could you kindly contact your parish priest Fr Adrian Lowe as soon as possible. For first time parents there is a Baptismal Programme run by Mrs Sharon Chalk.  Baptisms take place on Saturdays at 12.30pm

BCCS Bear – an update!

As mentioned previously, our Parish Choir and Contemporary Music Group are this year  supporting the Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society by collecting money from time to time in a BCCS box, encouraged by our cute BCCS bear mascot!

Fr Adrian has kindly agreed that we can shake the box after the 6pm, 9am and 11am masses on 25th and 26th May. If any parishioners would like to support our two choirs’ efforts by putting something in the box, this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance and, later on, we’ll let you know how we’re getting on!

NOTE FOR OUR CONTEMPORARY MUSIC GROUP

We will next be singing and playing at the 11am Mass on Sunday, 5th May (6th Sunday of Easter)

and holding a practice beforehand 7 to 8pm on Monday, 29th April.

We hope you can all come to the practice as well as the Mass itself. At the practice, we’d like to run through a couple of music pieces which need rehearsing, so please do make every effort to be there. If there are any singers/musicians in the Parish who may consider joining us, simply come along – you will be made very welcome.

Good news on our joint choirs’ BCCS bear mascot – the bear’s ‘son’ has turned up! Not that we want to empty your purses or wallets, but we’ll be having a little collection among ourselves after the 5th May Mass. If you don’t mind, kindly bring some spare cash to pop into a new collection box which arrived with the bear. Thanks in anticipation! God bless.
